Following the exit of Lionel Messi and the news that Kylian Mbappé could be sold this summer, another big name at Paris Saint-Germain could be on his way out: Marco Verratti.
The Italian has long been one of the faces of the Ligue 1 side, joining them in 2012, and last year’s Ligue 1 title could be his last, as a number of clubs are after him, with L’Equipe suggesting Liverpool could be one of them.
The main article is about Atlético Madrid’s interest in the 30-year-old, as the French newspaper back up a claim from Spain of the interest, as the La Liga side have made him their priority to improve their midfield.
However, L’Equipe add that Verratti is also of interest to ‘two English clubs, one of which could be Liverpool’, as well as Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
It’s no secret that Jürgen Klopp wants more men in his midfield after the exits of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keïta, while Jordan Henderson and Fabinho could also leave, and therefore, the need for someone like the Italy international makes sense.
Still, the interest of Atlético is inclined to ‘make him think’ about his future, where he could work under Diego Simeone, described as a manager who has ‘followed him for a few seasons’.
As for Liverpool, our best guess is they will wait to see what happens with Henderson and Fabinho first before potentially moving for Verratti, although it is worth pointing out that while L’Equipe do name the Anfield side, they don’t sound 100% convinced about it either.
