Ever since Steve Mandanda got injured, and Wayne Hennessey took over as the number one goalkeeper at Selhurst Park, the France number two has been linked with a rumour to his former club.
A stream of articles have been published since November-December explaining the Crystal Palace goalkeeper wants a return to the south of France, not entirely pleased at how his Premier League experience is going.
Despite both him and his entourage trying to put the rumours to bed as quickly as possible, they keep popping up, suggesting there must be something behind them.
Marseille themselves are very interested at the prospect of a Mandanda return, which bodes well for a transfer in the summer, yet there is a new kid on the block, and it’s a big one.
At least, that’s what Le10 Sport are reporting in their monthly magazine, claiming that Bayern Munich would be interested in making the Crystal Palace goalkeeper their ‘luxury’ number two behind Manuel Neuer.
Before you scoff at the idea, let’s not forget this is something that has happened before when Pepe Reina was sold to the Bundesliga club for that very role back in 2013.
While it’s unlikely that Mandanda would want to be number two for both club and country, the appeal of a move to Bayern Munich could be too much to resist.
A return to Marseille is certainly still top of the list, but it also all depends on who makes the best offer to Crystal Palace.
