Barcelona are open to the idea of a swap deal with Manchester City between João Cancelo and Nélson Semedo this summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say that such an operation would be ‘valued’ by the Spanish club, who are expecting the summer transfer window to be a difficult one in which to operate.
Reports in England this week suggested that Barça and City were in discussions over a possible swap deal for the right-backs, who are both represented by super agent Jorge Mendes.
Indeed, it was believed the Portuguese representative had proposed the deal to both clubs as he tries to find a solution to both players’ unhappiness at their respective clubs.
Sport confirm that such a suggestion has been made and Barcelona would be open to it as they look to find a solution to the problem Semedo presents.
However, his playing time has been limited again this season, so Mendes started talking to clubs in January, leading Barcelona to try and start talks over a new deal as his current contract only has two years left to run.
Either Semedo extended his deal, or they would sell him this summer so they could ‘achieve a significant transfer’.
The outbreak of Coronavirus has potentially ended that, but Mendes has instead suggested a swap deal that pleases both Barça and City.
The Spanish giants have long been keen on Cancelo and tried to sign him from Valencia in the past.
At the same time, Semedo like Manchester City because he thinks the physicality of the Premier League would suit him.
Thus, the option is there on the table. However, Barcelona believe that Semedo is worth more than Cancelo at present, so would like money from Manchester City as part of any potential deal.
