Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé suffered another injury setback this week and could be out of action for the rest of the season. He was already sidelined for several weeks and on his road to recovery, the forward had a hamstring tear.
On February 4th, we carried a report from Cadena Ser, who explained the Catalan club will look to bring in a replacement for the France international, if regulations permit.
Under certain conditions, La Liga clubs are allowed to make new additions to the squad outside the window, if a current player suffers a serious injury.
Sport now claims Getafe’s Ángel Rodríguez has been identified as a player to replace Dembélé at the Camp Nou for the second half of the season.
It’s claimed Ángel meets the criteria that Barcelona are looking for (which is a player who is playing in La Liga or a free agent) and his stats show he wouldn’t be a bad signing.
The 32-year-old has scored nine goals in 19 league appearances (only six starts) this season. Ángel’s current deal with Getafe runs down in 2021 and he has a €10m release clause.
Ángel’s ability to play anywhere in the front three could see Barcelona ‘kill two birds with one stone’ because they were looking for a new No 9 in January following Luis Suárez’s injury blow.
