Barcelona are planning to sit down with Ansu Fati and his representatives this week to discuss a new deal for the youngster at the club.
Fati has emerged as one of the hottest young players in Europe this season, with eight goals and one assist in 32 games in all competitions so far.
He signed a new contract that will keep at the club until 2022 in December, which included a €170m release clause rising to €400m when he ‘formally’ becomes a first-team player.
However, Barcelona are wary that there is interest in the youngster from around Europe, with several reports naming Manchester United as suitors.
This has led Barça chiefs to plan a meeting in the coming days, according to Sport, so they can discuss his ‘new situation’ at the club and ‘the possibility of further shielding his contract.’
The club are desperate to show the 17-year-old and his environment that they have complete faith in him for now and the future.
They plan for Fati to be a first-team player again next season and believe he can enjoy a ‘successful and extensive’ career at the club and want to make this clear to him.
How they will do this isn’t mentioned, but they have not ruled out offering him a pay increase and increasing that €400m release clause, which will become active when he is officially a first-team player next season.
No date has been set for the meeting as yet, but they want to get it out of the way before Barcelona travel to take on Napoli in the Champions League tournament in Lisbon.
Either way, the club want to make it clear that they categorically will not sell the highly-rated youngster either this summer or in future.
