The weight of claims around Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and a transfer to Real Madrid, at least from Spain, have tended to be somewhat lukewarm.
There’s occasionally one which breaks the mould, and that happened a few days ago with El Confidencial. The Spanish outlet, pretty good on Madrid transfer rumours, talked up the possibility.
Usually, the line is that Eriksen is a good player but Florentino Perez still has nightmares over Daniel Levy so will leave the situation well alone.
Thursday’s edition of L’Equipe echoes that, when explaining who Zinedine Zidane wants for his summer revolution at the Spanish club.
Madrid are credited with Eriksen interest, and then it’s pointed out that Zidane knows he very much needs a new No. 9. The Frenchman is said to like Harry Kane a great deal, but Perez is ‘worried’ over approaching Tottenham for either player.
Those in charge at Real Madrid ‘fear the difficulties of negotiating with Daniel Levy’, and still have ‘bad memories’ over the transfers of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.
And that’s very much why these two players remain on the periphery of Madrid transfer reports.
