Aston Villa may have been handed a major boost in their efforts to sign Marco Asensio, with him set to announce his departure from Real Madrid tomorrow.

That’s according to journalist Diego Pico, who has revealed the midfielder is planning to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Asensio is out of contract with Real Madrid this summer and, despite Carlo Ancelotti being keen to keep him, is yet to commit his future to the Spanish giants.

That’s led to speculation that he will be on his way out this summer and Aston Villa are thought to be keen. A report earlier today stated the Spanish coach had gone all out to secure his signature and made an important offer to the player to convince him.

That effort may have now been handed a significant boost, with Pico stating that “tomorrow Asensio will make an official statement saying he is leaving Real Madrid.”

Now that doesn’t necessarily mean the midfielder will be on his way to Aston Villa, but it does give them a greater chance of getting him.

With Asensio now seemingly determined to move on and find a new project, it will be up to Emery and Villa to convince that theirs is the best he can get.
