Cast your mind back to the summer transfer window, and you’ll remember a lot of rumours around Milot Rashica and Aston Villa.

At the time, it was made clear that Villa were keen to improve their forward line after capturing Ollie Watkins and Dean Smith had his eye on several targets.

Rashica was believed to be one of them, and numerous reports linked him with a move to Villa Park and a deal extremely close at one point.

Indeed, the Villans interest was clearly significant, with them reportedly willing to go as high as €25m to get a deal done.

Ultimately that didn’t happen, with Aston Villa instead signing Bertrand Traore in a move from Lyon.

He’s enjoyed a solid first season with the club since, but those links to Rashica did not go away and, in the build-up to the January transfer window, there were several claims that Aston Villa were still keen.

Again, a move didn’t happen, though, with the chances this time being scuppered by Rashica picking up an injury that saw his chances of a transfer evaporate.

Since then, the forward has been battling to get back to his best, and last weekend saw that happen in the win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kicker report that Rashica ‘made a dangerous appearance’ in the game, with his ‘fine pass’ setting up the equaliser in the game, which his side eventually won 2-1.

Rashica was handed man of the match for the fixture, with his ‘speed advantage’ having made him the ‘most active’ Bremen player offensively and helped his side to a big win.

It was his second assist in four games as the forward tries to get back to the kind of form that saw him rack up 11 goals and eight assists last season.

Now, there’s no mention of Aston Villa here, but it’s certain they’ll be keeping an eye on the player after their interest last summer and in January.

If he can continue to shine between now and the end of the season, as he did in this game, expect another summer of rumours revolving around the Kosovan.
