According to a claim in the Italian media, Empoli are showing an interest in Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason.
The Iceland international was linked with a return to Italy in the last window, following Parma interest.
Calciomercato today report Empoli have contacted Aston Villa with regards to the availability of Bjarnason, as the Serie B side look to add to their squad in this transfer window.
The Italian club have until the end of the month to sign the player, with their transfer window closing at the end of August.
The 29 year old started just 11 league games last season for the Championship side and was a late substitute in the victory over Hull City on Monday night. Subsequently the midfielder could be looking to find a club which will give him more playing time.
In January, Bjarnason had agreed to a move to Parma, but Aston Villa blocked the transfer.
The player is contract to Aston Villa until June 2020.
