Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini has told the Italian media his six months with the Championship club has helped him develop as a player. The 22-year-old is currently on loan with Atalanta after losing his place in the Aston Villa team.

Speaking to Atlanta’s official website, Gollini was asked how he remains so composed at such a young age.

Gollini believes playing in front of such big crowds whilst with Aston Villa has been beneficial to him because it’s enabled him to deal with pressure situations. The youngster said Atalanta’s game against Roma was a tense game for him personally, but his experience playing at Villa Park helped him.

“The second game I played in, at the Olimpico I was very tense. With experience you also learn to control your emotions and the six months in England served me well. I was always on a stage with thirty thousand people, it helps,” said Gollini.

Gollini only signed for Aston Villa in the last summer window, and started the season as Roberto Di Matteo’s number one. However, after Steve Bruce replaced the Italian boss Gollini eventually lost his place in the Aston Villa starting eleven, and was then loaned to Atalanta in January.
