Good news for Aston Villa if they’re really interested in re-signing John Terry for the season.
As reported by the Portuguese press in the past few days, the defender would be in talks to join Sporting in case candidate Pedro Madeira Rodrigues wins the presidential election.
But now it turns out that Rodrigues has given up on running for president, and will support José Maria Ricciardi instead.
Local newspapers don’t see a clear reason why he would quit just three days before the voting, but the fact is that he’s officialy out of the election.
Newspaper O Jogo has a good story about it this Wednesday, and according to sources close to Ricciardi, Rodrigues will have no secure job in case the candidate wins.
That probably means that the deal with John Terry is off, unless the player sorts some new agreement with this new board. That is, in case Ricciardi wins.
So with Aston Villa being such a simple option, maybe John Terry will just sign a contract with the Championship side instead of waiting for so many developments at Sporting.
