Aston Villa look set to miss out on Celtic goalkeeper Logan Bailly after the former Belgian international confirmed he wants to return to the Jupiler League.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Aston Villa in recent weeks following reports he’s set to leave Celtic this summer. Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments made by Bailly when asked about his future if he leaves Celtic in the next window.
The keeper said he wants to return to Standard Liege after coming through their youth system. Bailly revealed it’s something he’s always wanted after failing to make the step up to their senior team, and that he would like to finish his career with the Belgian side.
“But I’ve always said that I hope to play for them sometime – or even finish my career at Standard,” said the Aston Villa target.
This could come as a blow to Aston Vila after their recent interest in the Celtic player. Steve Bruce’s issues in this position have been well documented this season after they let Pierluigi Gollini join Atalanta on loan, and replaced him with Sam Johnstone.
The Manchester United keeper has so far failed to convince some fans since his arrival at Villa Park in January, and Bailly is an option for Bruce to bring much needed experience.
Bailly is contracted to Celtic until June 2018, but is now considered Brendan Rodgers’ 3rd choice goalkeeper with Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries ahead of him in the pecking order.
