Damià Vidagany worked at Valencia CF for nine years and the club and wider area clearly have a very special place in the heart of Aston Villa’s Director of Football Operations.
The recent DANA storm which brought tragedy and chaos to the region, and more widely in Spain, rightly continues to dominate the news in the country.
Even from a sporting perspective there’s been repeated personalities coming out to say they’ll support financial campaigns, or simply sharing their upset and anger relating to the situation.
There’s a widespread feeling that the Valencia authorities didn’t send out severe warnings soon enough, and that even following that failure they then again acted too slowly when it came to assisting those most strongly impacted.
Valencia’s community has been helping out themselves, with people travelling across the city to assist people they’ve often never met before.
Aston Villa’s Damià Vidagany has now spoken to Radio Marca, and is quoted as saying: “I get angry when I see people with radical ideas. Here it is about giving money to people who need it.
“This has been a global catastrophe. We need a lot of help… and let’s not forget it.”
