Gonzalo Montiel is very much persona non grata at Sevilla, and the Spanish club would be happy to part ways with the Argentine in the January window.
He spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had an option to make the transfer permanent. Despite them not using that, Estadio Deportivo present Nottingham Forest and Everton as interested parties from the summer.
Montiel’s contract with Sevilla lasts until June 2026, but he’s not in the plans of manager Garcia Pimienta, who wants another right-back signing to replace him.
Sevilla’s finances aren’t in great shape so to please their manager they really need to get rid of Montiel first.
A January deal is there to be done for the World Cup and two-time Copa America winner, and Nottingham Forest or Everton would likely be presented with reasonable terms to close a transfer.
Estadio Deportivo report PSV offered €4m in the summer, a figure which was welcomed at Sevilla, but the Dutch club pulled away over concerns relating to Montiel’s private life.
As explained by Estadio, the 27-year-old has a sexual assault case hanging over him in Argentina, and that saw PSV walk away. Despite Sevilla’s desire to sell him, the same concerns PSV had would likely be shared by Everton and Nottingham Forest.
