With all the focus on the arrival of Rui Patricio, it’s easy to forget that Granit Xhaka is still waiting for the green light from Arsenal to complete his move to AS Roma.
The Swiss midfielder has been patiently in limbo since before the Euros started, wanting to leave the Emirates for good to play under José Mourinho in Italy.
The two clubs have, however, been in an interminable game of chicken, with Roma refusing to meet Arsenal’s asking price, while the Gunners aren’t interested in accepting a lower offer for their midfielder, who performed admirably during the international competition.
Calciomercato give us a brief update on Tuesday, reminding everyone Xhaka has ‘long promised himself’ to Mourinho.
Not only that, but Arsenal ‘searching for a replacement’ has been ‘complicating matters’, especially when there is still a ‘financial distance of €3m to fill’.
Perhaps the arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga will make matters a tad easier?
It appears to be getting closer, but we wouldn’t recommend holding your breath anything yet, because this still has a long way to go, it seems.
