Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers have been ‘willing’ to pay big to sign Unai Nuñez from Athletic Bilbao this summer.
That’s according to Diario de Navarra, who reveal the interest from the Premier League pair as part of a report on Bilbao’s potential move for a replacement.
The newspaper explain that Bilbao are eyeing up a move for Osasuna defender David Garcia, revealing that they were ready to make a move for him in the summer if Nuñez had departed.
There was a real possibility of that happening too, with the defender’s contract renewal ‘stagnant’ and his future regularly covered in the media.
Wolves have also been linked in the past and AS reported in September that they had ‘came forward’ for him but believed his €30m release clause was ‘insurmountable’.
Diario back up the claims that both clubs were interested today, stating that Arsenal and Wolves ‘were willing to pay a significant amount’ for him as he’s considered one of the defenders with the ‘greatest national projection.’
What that amount was isn’t mentioned, although they do make it clear that he has a release clause of €30m so presumably, it was somewhere near that amount.
