Arsenal ‘do not lose sight’ of Athletic Bilbao defender Unai Núñez but are focusing on a move for Reims defender Axel Disasi first.

That’s according to AS, who cover Núñez’s future today amid Athletic’s efforts to tie him down to a new deal.

The centre back has long been linked with a move away from the Spanish club, with pretty much every major club in Europe named as suitors at some point.

Arsenal are one of them, although a report last month indicated they had turned their attention elsewhere after Athletic demanded €30m for the 23-year-old.

That report from AS claimed the Gunners were long-time admirers of Núñez and had been following him but, with money tight at the Emirates, had decided they couldn’t afford his €30m asking price.

And that seems to be the tone in the latest update on the matter from the newspaper, with it stated that while Arsenal ‘do not lose sight’ of the defender, they are ‘leaning’ towards Disasi as he can be signed for €15m.

That’ll come as good news to Athletic, who are pushing to sign Núñez up to a new deal, despite his contract expiring in 2023.
