Arsenal, fresh off a rather disappointing season in the Premier League, want to bolster their squad at all levels.
The most important area for Mikel Arteta appears to be at defensive midfield, where Thomas Partey seemed to be top of his list.
However, that avenue has dwindled, with recent reports claiming the Gunners have decided not to trigger the Ghanaian’s release clause.
The alternative, it seems, is AS Roma’s Amadou Diawara, which has been known for a while.
Both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport talk about it in their respective newspapers on Thursday, and they both have the same information.
We’ll start with the first of the two, who explain the idea of a swap between the two clubs involving Lucas Torreira and Diawara is still one the Italian club would like to put in place if possible, allowing Paulo Fonseca to have the regista he wants.
However, it seems Arsenal’s plan is just to pay money, as it’s made clear the Gunners ‘will soon launch the frontal attack for the Guinean, offering €30m to Roma’.
This is a figure they will ‘of course accept given the economic convenience’.
Corriere corroborate all of this, claiming Arsenal ‘seem ready to put around £27m’ for Diawara, ‘but the hypotheses of an exchange with Torreira still remains’.
Roma ‘would prefer only money’, but if they were to get the Uruguayan in exchange, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Should this go through, however, Arsenal ‘will have in depth medical examinations to assess the condition of the torn meniscus’ he suffered in January.
