It’s been a week since the Brazilian media reported Arsenal’s interest in Palmeiras wonderkid Estevão Willian, better known as Messinho.
Back then, it was claimed by Goal that the Gunners were one of the clubs who got in touch with his entourage to know more about his situation.
The teenager is only 15, which means he doesn’t even have a professional contract with his club yet, but that’s about to change very soon.
According to an update from Goal today, Palmeiras and Messinho reached an agreement for his first commitment, and that will include a €50m release clause for foreign clubs.
The contract, however, will only be signed on April 24, when he finally turns 16.
Palmeiras have recently been sorting the sale of Endrick, with Real Madrid triggering his €60m release clause.
It’s said people ‘suggested’ Messinho to have an even bigger price tag, but they settled at €50m in the end.
The report then recalls that the youngster has already been getting some approaches from European sides, with the likes of Arsenal, Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona all getting interested in his signing.
PSG even tried to get ahead of competition by making an offer to have the preference over Messinho and Endrick, but that was turned down by Palmeiras.
Arsenal and Barcelona, meanwhile, are said to be ‘monitoring’ Messinho’s situation and ‘evaluate the possibility of making a bid in the future’.
