This month, Arsenal spent a few weeks being linked to Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.

The Gunners were said to be in intense talks with the Bianconeri for the transfer , and with the negotiations stalled for a while, it soon became unlikely that the 25-year-old would move to London in the winter window.

It turned out that, working a little faster, Tottenham seem to have found a deal for Juve’s Rodrigo Bentancur, who according to claims from Italy today, has already signed a deal with Spurs.

So that’s the old North London rivalry being brought to the transfer window, because the Brazilian media now claims that one transfer blocked the other.

Globo Esporte writes that after selling Bentancur to Tottenham, Juventus stopped Arthur from moving to Arsenal.

It’s pointed out that the Gunners had an agreement with the player and were ‘optimistic’ about the move, but couldn’t find a deal with the Old Lady regarding the length of the loan with an option to buy, and now don’t stand a chance of bringing him to the Emirates.

The outlet recalls that the midfielder had been suggested by Edu Gaspar to Mikel Arteta, as the director has known the player for a long time. Arthur also wanted a new club to get more minutes and a bigger chance of being at the World Cup, and even changed agents to get a move to the Premier League, but it seems he’ll have to wait a little longer.
