Shkodran Mustafi is yet another Premier League player coming back to his club injured after international break.

The Arsenal defender left the pitch for Germany against Azerbaijan clearly in pain, and Joachim Low wasn’t exactly full of hope after the match. Germany’s manager predicted a muscle injury and therefore a layoff for the player.

German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemaine say Mustafi is set for a ‘long break’ from action for Arsenal, with what’s described as a ‘severe muscle injury’, but they also say he’ll be out for ‘several weeks’.

Picking up the most negative comments in Germany could have one believing Mustafi’s muscles have been shredded, whereas going with the ‘few weeks’ angle sounds more promising.

That there’s such tangents in one newspaper article would suggest that whilst things don’t look great, with Mustafi’s grimace telling its own story, there’s still a lot of uncertainty over what has actually happened.

Arsene Wenger will now want to get the defender back and have Arsenal’s medical team assess exactly what the issue, and prognosis, is.
