There are interesting claims on the future of Andre Onana from both France and the Netherlands on Tuesday.
The Ajax goalkeeper has less than a year left on his current contract and has been expected to leave the Amsterdam club this summer. There’d earlier been claims of interest from multiple big clubs around Europe, although when it came to an actual transfer it doesn’t appear Onana had as widespread interest as he’d expected.
A move to Lyon has been in the works for weeks, but that now looks to have collapsed. De Telegraaf say that’s due to ‘bigger clubs’ moving for the player, and the only side mentioned is Arsenal.
The Dutch newspaper say ‘Arsenal were serious’ about signing Onana earlier in the process, and the hint would be that the Gunners could be the big club looking to snatch the deal from Lyon’s clutches.
Over at L’Equipe, they say Lyon had an outline agreement for the signing, expecting to pay less than €6m to Ajax. However, having verbally agreed a deal with Onana’s entourage, that then stalled due to ‘financial details’.
The French newspaper believe the stopper is now tempted to wait and sign a pre-contract agreement in January, so he can later move on a free transfer and get a big signing bonus.
De Telegraaf disagree, and feel a move this summer is still on the agenda.
