Mikel Arteta will not be able to rely upon Oleksandr Zinchenko for Arsenal’s clash against Brentford on Sunday.
The Ukraine international picked up a calf injury while training with the Gunners and this will force him to miss his country’s UEFA Nations League matches against Scotland and Armenia later this month.
Zinchenko’s setback has been confirmed by the Ukrainian football association [UAF]. They also revealed the Arsenal player called the national team manager, Oleksandr Petrakov, and ‘personally informed’ him about the ‘unfortunate news’ of his latest injury.
The UAF have also stressed the 25-year-old is set to be on the sidelines for two weeks and this could mean he may end up missing only one game for the north London club.
Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur in the derby clash on October 1st, after the international break, and Zinchenko may be in contention to face Spurs at the Emirates.
Arteta’s side signed the left-back from Manchester City in the summer and he has made five appearances in all competitions. He picked up a knee injury in August and returned to action in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
This is Zinchenko’s second setback of the season.
