Mainz manager Bo Svensson insists he has only heard about interest from Brighton and Hove Albion via the media but can’t rule it out either.

Brighton are on the hunt for a new manager after Graham Potter left to join Chelsea last week.

They’ve been linked with a growing list of names since, and Mainz boss Svensson is one of them believed to be under consideration.

He’s been impressing with the German side since arriving in January last year and currently has them sixth in the table after six games.

Whether Brighton make a move remains to be seen, with a report yesterday instead insisting they were focusing on English speaking managers and had two at the top of their list.

In the meantime, Svensson continues to be asked about the potential switch, admitting earlier this week that he found the links flattering.

He’s now been asked again ahead of Mainz’s clash with Hertha Berlin and insisted there has been nothing official to date.

“I only know about it from the media,” he told BILD.

“I don’t have a career plan; I didn’t have one when I was a player. It’s unnecessary to go into such hypotheses.

“You can never rule anything out. But if something like that happens, then of course it’s better to do it at the end of the season.”
