Atlético Madrid have Arsenal’s Thomas Partey in their target list for the summer window, according to Wednesday’s edition of Marca.

Mikel Arteta has used Partey as a defensive midfielder and a right-back, and he played 45 games so far this season.

The 31-year-old has less than three months left on his contract and his future would be away from Arsenal.

Marca state Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is prioritising signing Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi. This, coupled with Partey’s contract situation opens the door for him to leave the Emirates after this season.

Atlético have their former player on the list as he can be a ‘significant market opportunity’ in the next window. It won’t be easy for the La Liga club to sign him.

That’s because the newspaper states the Ghana international won’t be short of offers in the summer, without mentioning any other clubs’ interest.

Los Rojiblancos are aware they can’t get into a battle for him and therefore, they hope to acquire his signature as quickly as possible.

Partey spent seven years at Atlético before leaving them for Arsenal in 2020. If he returns to the Madrid club, Mikel Arteta’s starter can be a good option for Diego Simeone next season
