On Wednesday, there was a strong rumour in the Portuguese media saying David Luiz could return to Benfica.
The story was a mix of news from the past few days. It first started with the defender claiming he’d like to return to Lisbon before the end of his career.
Then the English media revealed that his contract with Arsenal expires next month, rather than in 2021, as first reported.
That was enough for TVI24 to jump on the bandwagon, saying the ‘world star’ could be back at Estádio da Luz in the next transfer window.
They now say that despite the end of the contract, David Luiz could still renew his deal and stay at Arsenal. They also make it clear that the 33-year-old isn’t returning to Benfica this summer, regardless of his wish to do it someday
