Arsenal have made an attempt to sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, the Brazilian media today reports.
Goal Brasil writes that the Gunners put £20m on the table, and the offer was delivered on Tuesday.
Palmeiras, however, are expected to turn down Arsenal’s bid, with president Leila Pereira previously claiming she would not sell the player this summer.
Goal Brasil state that the Gunners are looking for a midfielder in the final days of the transfer window. They say Lucas Paquetá was ‘considered’, but ruled out due to his price.
Now in case Palmeiras do reject Arsenal’s offer, it isn’t known if Mikel Arteta’s side are willing to raise their bid for the player, who’s protected at the Brazilian club by a €100m release clause.
The Gunners have been linked to Danilo a few times this year, and those rumours were the reason for president Leila Pereira to go public about not selling him.
The Verdão are in the semifinals of Copa Libertadores and are top of the Brazilian league, so they don’t want to lose players in the middle of the South American season.
