With Danilo standing out as one of the biggest talents in Brazil, we’ve repeatedly seen Arsenal being named as one of the contenders to sign him this summer.
With many claims saying Palmeiras demand at least €25m to let him go, the midfielder himself recently revealed he’s taking English classes as he looks forward to a move to Europe.
However, speaking to the Brazilian media, club president Leila Pereira has now claimed that Danilo is not leaving them in this transfer window. The official was interviewed by ESPN, and left a clear message about the midfielder’s future.
“Palmeiras are working. Our squad is very short, we need reinforcements. We need to buy players, not sell players,” Leila Pereira told ESPN Brasil.
“Palmeiras needs to buy players like Merentiel. And, in the mid-year window, Danilo stays. You can nail it.”
Danilo later gave a press conference along with manager Abel Ferreira. And the player did not dare to disagree with the club president (via ESPN).
“Firstly, thank God for the call-up. ‘Aunt Leila’, my managers, the club agreed there what they agreed there. I still don’t know anything. If she already knows… she said, it’s said. What she said, it’s said (laughs).”
Leila Pereira definitely makes a big statement by guaranteeing Danilo’s stay, as he’s undoubtedly one of the youngsters with biggest potential in Brazil these days, having been included in Tite’s list for the national team’s last games. So if Arsenal and other European giants do place good bids for him this summer, it will be interesting to see Palmeiras’ reaction.
