On Tuesday, Corriere dello Sport reported Inter Milan are looking for a defensive midfielder, with Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté and Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka viewed as targets.
It was also stated intermediaries are probing a potential swap deal involving the Gunners midfielder and Christian Eriksen, who has struggled to adjust to Antonio Conte’s methods at the San Siro.
According to FcInterNews, the Switzerland international ‘doesn’t excite’ the Nerazzurri and a potential swap deal involving Xhaka, who has been offered to Inter several times in the past, is ‘difficult’.
Regarding the north London club’s interest in the former Tottenham Hotspur star, the outlet states two clubs have ‘approached’ the Dane’s agent, Martin Schoots, and they are Atlético Madrid and Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal approached Schoots via a well-known intermediary operating between Milan and London.
The Premier League side are looking for an attacking midfielder and Eriksen is a third-choice target for Arteta. Lyon’s Houssam Aouar remains the first choice, followed by Red Bull Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai.
Aouar and the Hungarian are young, futuristic talents, whilst Eriksen will turn 29 years of age in February and earns €9m per year.
Even if Eriksen becomes the first-choice target for Arteta and Arsenal in the attacking midfield position, it’s not clear whether he would be willing to join the arch-rival of his former club, Tottenham, where he spent over six years.
