Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst has not had any contact from either Arsenal or Newcastle United, despite claims to the contrary.

Reports earlier this month indicated that both Premier League sides were keen on the Bundesliga striker, who has 20 goals and five assists in all competitions this season.

Newcastle were the first to be linked, with a report claiming they had him at the top of their wishlist this summer and would have ‘no problem’ paying his €35m transfer fee.

Arsenal’s interest soon followed, with it believed they were looking at the striker as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should he leave this summer.

Weghorst later commented on the rumours and insisted he would sit down with current club Wolfsburg should any interest arise.

However, it seems there will be no need for such discussions as there is yet to be any contact from anyone over him.

That’s according to Kicker, who cover the supposed interest from Arsenal and Newcastle and says that while it is ‘well known’ that he has been attracting Premier League interest and both clubs have ‘recently taken action’ their information says otherwise.

As far as they’re concerned, there has been ‘no request’ for the striker. In fact, there has not even been an ‘expression of interest’ in him.

Furthermore, it’s been well established that Weghorst is desperate to win titles and Kicker questions whether either of those clubs could offer that to him.

Of course, there is every chance that could change in future, and it’s certainly likely that both clubs will be looking for additional firepower this summer, especially Arsenal if Aubameyang should go.

For now, though, it appears that any talk of interest in Weghorst is wide of the mark and he may have to hold his horses before dreaming of a Premier League switch.
