Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is set to join Roma on their pre-season training camp in Portugal next week, with a deal close to completion.
That’s according to Sky Sport Italy journalist Angelo Mangiante, who says a deal between the two clubs is close to being struck.
As you’re probably aware by now, Xhaka has been linked with Roma for several months, with new Roma boss Jose Mourinho reportedly very keen to add him to his squad.
The Swiss is also keen to leave Arsenal, and they are happy to sell, but so far, the Italian side have not yet matched their valuation.
Some reports have hinted the deal had hit the buffers, with Xhaka even doing his part to move things along by foregoing bonuses owed to him by Arsenal.
The deal is very much stuck on the negotiating table, but Mangiante says that is close to ending, with an agreement between Roma and Arsenal ‘almost done’.
He says Mourinho is ‘pushing’ for the transfer to be finalised and is ‘waiting’ for the Switzerland star to join him and his squad at their training camp in the Algarve next week.
That is something Mangiante says ‘will’ happen, so it seems this drawn-out saga may be finally coming to an end, and everyone can move on with their lives.
