There’s a lot to unpack today when it comes to Arsenal, who appear to be torn between signing either Manuel Locatelli or Houssem Aouar.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Gunners had made an offer for the Lyon playmaker, having also done so for the Italy international.

The problem with claims such as these is that they are often contradicted by other outlets, who have their own information, which may differ as they stem from a different source.

For example, Tuttosport, when talking about Arsenal’s pursuit of Aouar, never mentioned an offer from the Gunners, but simply stated they were ‘pushing’ and made him a ‘priority’.

That’s a stance that appears to be corroborated by Foot Mercato journalist Dahbia Hattabi on Thursday, who wrote a lengthy article about the transfer situation at Lyon.

The Ligue 1 side have given a number of players ‘exit passes’, with one also handed to Aouar, who has long been branded a Mikel Arteta target, and Arsenal are said to be ‘maintaining contact’ with the player ‘without concretely moving forward’.

The reason for that is because the Gunners ‘need to sell before being able to buy’.

Perhaps accepting AS Roma’s offer for Granit Xhaka would be a good place to start?
