With their attempts to sign Dusan Vlahovic, it was very clear that Arsenal, who have allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona on a free, needed a new striker.
They tried and tried to get the Serbian in during the January window, but he only had eyes for Juventus, who eventually bought him from Fiorentina.
Then came a flurry of names, including Raúl de Tomas, who was the subject of a phone call from the Gunners, but there was also Alvaro Morata.
The striker, who had just seen Vlahovic arrive, was said to be a target for a number of clubs, including Arsenal, and Corriere dello Sport back this up, making it clear the Spain international was the subject of a ‘last minute assault’ from the Gunners and Tottenham.
Both of those, however, were ‘repelled’, although it’s not made clear by who.
A few thing are certain, however, and that’s the fact Arsenal are without a striker, and Morata stayed at Juventus, where he ‘intends to return as a protagonist’ for the second half of the season.
