Once the transfer window had closed in France, L’Equipe reviewed each team’s handiwork.

Lille, who had a terrible season under Marcelo Bielsa, ended up on the podium with a 15/20 grade, having managed to keep hold of their star forward Nicolas Pépé.

In that review, the French newspaper mentioned that Arsenal were interested in the winger, as well as a number of other European sides, with an unnamed team reportedly bidding €35m late on.

Since then, understandably, everything has gone a bit quiet on the transfer front, but Le10 Sport try and kickstart it again on Thursday, claiming the Gunners are still following the 23-year-old closely.

In fact, they’ve gone as far as contacting the player and his entourage, letting him know about their interest, and telling him that if he carries on with his current form, they might consider making a move for him either next summer or as early as January.

Since the start of the season, Pépé has scored one goal and assisted three in the first four games, seemingly enjoying life under Bielsa’s replacement, Christophe Galtier.
