On Friday there was much fuss when quotes came from France making it sound like Jean-Michel Aulas had confirmed a fresh bid from Arsenal for Alexandre Lacazette. Having watched the video of Aulas’ press conference, Sport Witness was able to establish the Lyon president didn’t say the words attributed to him.

The original source of the quotes, on Twitter, also later apologised for putting them out there, but it was too late. Big swathes of the English media seemed to have little interest in the veracity of the quotes and they’ve been appearing on Sky Sports News, and are even in broadsheet newspapers on Saturday.

It was never said, but that doesn’t mean Arsenal aren’t interested in the 26 year old. In their Saturday edition, L’Equipe have a look at potential destinations for ‘patient’ Lacazette.

Arsenal are of course there, and it’s stated the club are now the ‘most advanced’ to sign the striker.

The French newspaper explain that last year’s attempts from Arsenal were somewhat confused, but they’ve returned in a ‘concrete’ way.

Olivier Giroud is brought into the equation, however, he has no interest in returning to France, and a player plus money deal isn’t on the table.
