Douglas Luiz didn’t want to go to Girona on loan again this season.

He only made one La Liga start there during the last campaign, along with fourteen substitute appearances, and didn’t feel going back to the Spanish club was the best route for his career.

Ideally, the 20 year old midfielder would have liked to stay at Manchester City, but that wasn’t possible… at least partly due to work permit reasons.

The Premier League club convinced him that things would be different this time at Girona, and that’s been the case. Douglas has 15 starts in La Liga this season, seven substitute appearances, and a further four starts in the Copa del Rey.

He’s a genuinely important part of the side, that’s when he’s not injured.

Sport report he’s picked up his third hamstring injury of the season, and may not play again this campaign.

The Catalan newspaper talk the issue up saying it’s ‘another hamstring injury’ and the player has a ‘tendency to be injured’.

Manchester City won’t want the youngster becoming a longer term fitness issue, so it’s obviously a concern. If it’s the same leg, then perhaps the summer rest could do him good.

Then it’s time for City to decide what to do with Douglas next.
