After Chelsea’s 2-1 win against West Ham last night, Diego Costa gave an exclusive interview to ESPN Brasil. The striker talked about the good start of the team and how he feels to be scoring at the Stamford Bridge again.
The reporter João Castelo Branco mentioned the new Premier League rules, which mean the players who complain with referees will be booked. Costa, who got a yellow for this reason, commented on the matter: “I am aware of it now. The second time I went to talk to him, he showed me [the yellow card]. I even found it a bit weird, but then I understood. I went to apologise at half-time and that’s it.
“But I’ll be honest, I am targeted here, by the referees, the people… if I do something, it’s totally different than if any other players do. It needs to be seen, that people targeted me.
“It’s something I have to deal with and I ask god that these things don’t disturb me and don’t take the sequence of the games from me, which happens sometimes and gives me suspensions.”
Costa may well feel he’s been targeted at times, but he’s also been lucky at times, and if the Chelsea star is going to avoid suspensions this season then he needs to digest the new guidelines and take notice of them.
Otherwise, the Brazil born Spanish international is going to be feeling a lot more hard done to.
