If the Italian press are to be believed, Antonio Conte isn’t giving up on Kalidou Koulibaly just yet.

The Senegalese defender has been on the Italian’s radar all summer, and were it not for Aurelio De Laurentiis’ stubbornness at losing two big players in one transfer window, he could already be wearing the London club’s blue shirt.

However, Napoli’s owner is very much against seeing his best defender leave, and very large bids from the Premier League club are being turned away.

According to Il Messaggero in Italy, Chelsea have made an official €50m bid for Koulibaly; an offer described as ‘mind-boggling’ by the newspaper.

De Laurentiis is apparently trying to hold as best he can, and is trying to make the player sign a contract extension with a new salary with a promise he can leave next summer.

Conte, down his end, is reluctant to talk about other clubs’ players, which is understandable, but there’s never this much smoke without fire, and now it’s up to the player to make a big decision.

Does he force Napoli’s hand, or does he accept the new contract and patiently wait for next summer?
