Guess who’s back with a brand new story about Cengiz Ünder potentially moving to Everton?
Corriere dello Sport, that’s who.
Looking at how AS Roma could gain €90m from sales in the coming months, the Italian newspaper touch upon the future of the Turkey international.
One of the more valuable expendable assets within the squad, the 22-year-old is of interest to a number of teams, including the Toffees.
Of late, Ancelotti and co. have taken a backseat in the race, as Napoli have pushed more than any other club, but that doesn’t mean they’re gone entirely.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side aren’t prepared to pay the €35m cash asked for by Roma, which gives an opening to Everton and Marcel Brands, although they haven’t made use of it yet.
Corriere explain the Premier League club have ‘put their eyes on him more timidly’ than Napoli for the time being, but it’s once again made very clear it all comes from Ancelotti.
It’s his ‘input’ that has led Brands and his team to consider a move for the Turkish winger, which shows how much the club wants to give their Italian manager the tools he needs to succeed.
The newspaper then state ‘either way, [Ünder] will leave’, because he’s expendable for Roma, and ‘even more so’ for Paulo Fonseca.
It’s just a question of where to, and the ball appears to be in Everton’s court now.
