Pre World Cup injury worries are a tradition for many countries, England very much among them. Just before many tournaments a key player will pick up an injury and there’ll be doubts over his fitness.
Back in 2002, David Beckham suffered a foot fracture which led to a nation becoming experts on metatarsals. Self-proclaimed psychic Uri Geller went on morning TV and asked people to touch an image of the star’s foot, with the aim of collective mind healing.
Over in Argentina, they’re getting into a panic over Sergio Aguero. It’s not quite as serious, because Messi, but the Manchester City player is on the front page of Wednesday’s Ole and there’s a long article which details all the country’s fitness woes.
It’s not just Aguero who has fitness doubts. Ole list other players, but it’s the City man causing most heartache.
He may well be fit for the World Cup, but will he be fit?
With little chance to prepare himself with Manchester City, Aguero could arrive sorely short of match practice. Added to that is Aguero’s recent troubles with the national team anyway.
There’s been the Amsterdam car accident, injuries, and even a dizzy spell. Ole also point out Aguero hasn’t had the best time at the past two World Cups.
Should Aguero not be ready for the first matches then Argentina will likely turn to Gonzalo Higuain, but Ole point out the situation could lead Jorge Sampaoli to add another striker to the squad.
