Spending £27m on Ismaïla Sarr, Watford made it clear they wanted to recruit young, talented players they could both count on straight away to then sell for a profit down the line.
The Senegal international has enjoyed a decent first season in the Premier League, scoring five goals and picking up another five assists in 26 league appearances, but it hasn’t been enough to help the Hornets avoid an unwanted relegation scrap.
Currently 17th, Watford sacked Nigel Pearson after the 3-1 loss to West Ham, leaving the club in dire need of change and some good results in the last two games of the season.
One man who will be looking at all this very closely is Thierno Seydi, Sarr’s agent, who has already said he wants the Hornets to stay up.
Should they not, however, he will take action where needed and do what’s best for his client.
In an interview with WiW Sports, he said: “If Watford stay up in the Premier League, [Sarr] will be able to confirm himself next season before joining a bigger club. If they’re relegated, it opens other doors. I’m praying for them to stay up so he can have a second season”.
It’s fair to say that if the Hornets do end up back in the Championship, they would likely try to cash in on Sarr since he would probably be unwilling to play in England’s second division.
That’s what Seydi was hinting at, at least, but first, the last two games of the current campaign against… Manchester City and Arsenal.
