When West Ham and Southampton were both reported as chasing KAS Eupen’s Henry Onyekuru, that was a statement they were looking to add someone who can score goals.
After all, scoring is what the Nigerian does, tallying 24 goals in 40 appearances from the wing this season for the Belgian side, but recent reports suggest Arsenal could have overtaken both the Hammers and the Saints in this dossier.
This means alternatives need to be looked at, and one of those comes in the shape of Kelechi Iheanacho, currently at Manchester City and pushed to one side by Pep Guardiola since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.
Speaking to OwnGoalNigeria on Tuesday, one of the Nigerian forward’s representatives revealed the list of teams seriously considering making a move for Iheanacho, and is includes both Southampton and West Ham.
Five clubs are said to have made offers to Manchester City already, while another 10 have enquired about his services, meaning there’s a lot to think about.
Wanting first-team football, you would think a move to West Ham at this moment in time would suit him best, especially since Southampton already shelled out a large amount of money on Manolo Gabbiadini in January.
There’ll be more on this in the coming days, rest assured.
