Jorge Mendes is currently trying to find a new club for Eliaquim Mangala. That new club should have almost certainly been Valencia, with the Manchester City owned defender impressing there on loan last season.
However, Valencia’s financial situation is precarious. The club have made a string of signings, largely managed by Mendes, which haven’t worked out and it’s left a lasting mark.
Valencia may still try for a cut-price deal, and Mendes may feel he owes the club’s owner Peter Lim that one, however, Manchester City can likely get more money elsewhere.
On Tuesday Mangala was spotted in Lyon, but the subsequent reporting of a move to the local club was much exaggerated. French newspaper L’Equipe report that Mangala is of some sort of interest to Lyon, but he’s one of several possibilities, and the defender himself doesn’t lack offers.
With Pep Guardiola not seeming keen to give Mangala a go, and Manchester City informing Mendes of that, the Frenchman will now ‘listen to all proposals’, including some from Italy, before making his decision.
Mendes will be glad when he finds a home for Mangala, but this time the player appears determined to get the move that’s right for him.
Rather than Mangala turning up in Lyon to close an imminent transfer, L’Equipe make it sound more like transfer speed-dating.
