The trial involving the Stadio Is Arenas scandal has continued in court, report the Sardinian media. Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino stands accused of attempted embezzlement, forgery and violation of zoning regulations for his role in the construction of Cagliari’s stadium, whist in charge of the Italian club.
The Sardinia Post have reported on yesterday’s trial, but the Leeds United chief wasn’t present at the hearing. This isn’t the first time the case has been rearranged after it was revealed last November documentation relating to the trial had be looked at again. It’s been confirmed the next hearing will in May.
Cellino faces the wrath of the Italian justice system over the building of Cagliari’s ground Stadio Is Arenas. Charges have been brought against the Leeds United chief and several public officials for their role in the construction of the stadium.
Cellino sold the Serie A side in 2014 when he purchased Leeds United, where his reign has been controversial. The process looks likely to continue to drag on for some time yet, as we predicted late last year.
Depending on any subsequent conviction, the case could impact Cellino’s role at Leeds United.
