France Football have a feature on Kylian Mbappe in their magazine this week, which is inevitable given the player’s recent form. The 18 year old has been impressing hugely for Monaco this season and that’s attracted interest from elsewhere.

Manchester City tried to get ahead of the game last summer by submitting an offer for Mbappe. The Monaco starlet was then just 17 years old and not of the profile he is now, a raw talent without the opportunity at that stage to prove himself.

L’Equipe reported a €40m offer from Manchester City for Mbappe, an offer which Monaco rejected. It seems farcical that a club would reject €40m for a 17 year old who was an unproven talent, but Monaco knew what they were doing.

France Football reiterate Manchester City’s offer in their magazine this week and say it would now take far more than €40m to sign Mbappe. It’s claimed the youngster is already worth more than €60m, although that could be a structured deal of the like which took Screen Shot 2017-03-07 at 10.06.33Anthony Martial to Manchester United.

Should Pep Guardiola still want his man then it’s a question of timing as well as money. Monaco will likely sell at least one or two of theirs stars in the summer, such is their structure and philosophy.

Manchester City and anyone else wanting Mbappe would be best advised to get in there first, because if Monaco sell others earlier in the window then it would make them hesitant to sell Mbappe later.
