Earlier today we covered claims from Portugal that West Ham are pushing ahead of others for Benfica’s Gedson Fernandes.

The Lisbon club are ready to negotiate the 20 year old’s exit, and several sides have been linked.

Manchester United have taken up an almost customary place, and have been joined by others including Lyon. Reports came from France earlier this week of Lyon making an approach, and now there’s an update… one which sounds good for West Ham’s chances.

RMC report Lyon are ‘losing’ the battle for the Benfica midfielder, and West Ham have a ‘head-start’. The Hammers have ‘advanced their pawns’ and are making moves to sign the player.

David Moyes’ side are looking for an 18 month loan with an option to buy. Lyon aren’t yet ruled out, but it’s stated West Ham wish to conclude a deal for the player quickly.

Gedson Fernandes could be one for the future for West Ham, given he hasn’t been able to become a regular at Benfica despite his undoubted talent.
