Watford are ready to make a ‘nice offer’ to sign midfielder Cheikh Niasse from Ligue 1 side Lille this month.

The Hornets have enjoyed an upturn in form of late, with the appointment of Nigel Pearson seeing the club go on a four-game unbeaten run and lose just one of their last six games in the league.

That run of form has eased the relegation worries at Vicarage Road although it is felt that additions will be needed in January if Watford are to carry on their turnaround in form.

One area they may look to improve is their midfield, and according to Le 10 Sport, Lille midfielder Niasse is on their wishlist.

They report that Watford are ‘in the game’ for the 19-year-old, who has struggled for game time at the French club this season.

The Hornets are reportedly willing to make a transfer offer for Niasse, although the website does detail what that would entail at this point.

Watford are not the only club interested, with Stade Rennais also keen on signing the player, although it seems that both clubs may face frustration.

Le 10 explain that Lille ‘does not intend’ to sell the player, despite his lack of playing time this season, as they believe he is one for the future.

Indeed, they plan to hold onto Niasse and rely on him in future, particularly if Boubakary Soumaré should leave this month.
