It seems Kieran Gibbs’ transfer to Torino is picking up pace in Italy on Monday, as Calciomercato provide an update on the West Brom defender’s situation.
Earlier, we relayed a claim from Corriere dello Sport that contact had been made with the Baggies regarding the loan with a view to buy of the former Arsenal defender, and now the Italian website state there has been an ‘acceleration in negotiations’.
While no numbers are mentioned, the article also states Torino have ‘increased their offer’ for the Championship defender, who was described by Corriere as being open to a move to Italy should an agreement be found.
The problem for the Serie A side was the player’s wages, but should Gibbs’ desire to move prove true, then perhaps he might also be ‘open’ to reducing his salary.
This comes after Torino’s director of football, Gianluca Petrachi, struggled to convince Real Betis to let go of Junior Firpo, and his focus is now solely on the West Brom man.
It’s heading in the right direction.
