Friday was full of reports in Brazil claiming Arsenal are close to completing the signing of São Paulo winger Marquinhos, with journalists saying the transfer is now given as ‘certain’.
The most interesting thing in this move is that the Gunners are reportedly about to buy the player for only €3m, and that’s due to a mistake in his contract which could allow him to leave his club for free this summer.
It’s now common sense that this transfer is being done for so little money, and as that was discussed on Jovem Pan Esportes, some pundits talked about how unbelievable the situation is.
“This is absurd. This is absurd,” said former national team midfielder Vampeta.
“Marquinhos’ business. They’re going to lose Marquinhos to Arsenal for €3m. I don’t know if you remember that I used to say I watched Audax’s academy games, Marquinhos in the under-15… he used to already make the difference. I said here on the show, ‘There’s an U-15 at São Paulo, Marquinhos’… Now he’s going to leave on a silver platter.”
Host Thiago Asmar then suggested that Marquinhos should be worth at least €10-15m, with all pundits agreeing, and then added that it’s a ‘scandal’ the player is leaving for only €3m.
The situation is described as a ‘paradise’ for Arsenal.
