On Thursday, a story emerged from Italy claiming that a deal between Chelsea and Torino for Gleison Bremer was ‘perhaps imminent’.
This came from Tuttosport and understandably made waves around both countries, but it didn’t take long for someone to come out and put an end to it all, with that person being none other than the Serie A side’s president, Urbano Cairo.
Speaking to the press after their 2-1 loss to Sampdoria on Thursday night, the club chief was asked about the Brazilian’s future following claims of a January exit, potentially to Chelsea, and his answer couldn’t have been clearer.
Relayed by Gazzetta dello Sport, he said: “Absolutely not, I never thought of selling Bremer in January. Absolutely not. Gleison Bremer is one of our players. For the moment, I have not spoken to anyone: Bremer is ours, he remains with us for the whole of the campaign. We will see…”.
This would mean that Chelsea, if they are indeed as interested of bringing the centre-back to Stamford Bridge as reports suggest, will have to wait until the end of the 2021-22 season to get their man.
He would then only have one year left on his contract with Torino, making him an affordable target not just for Thomas Tuchel’s Blues, but also many other clubs around the continent.
